Let’s Get Fancy! Want to amplify and expand your pointed pen flourishing? Build your current calligraphic repertoire by learning the detailed principles and structure of successfully fancy flourished script capital letters, in-depth techniques and alternate stroke combinations…all while creating your own style!

JULY 11 & 18, 2024

In this class, we’ll combine both history and artistry as we explore the world of flourished names. First, students will learn the fundamental techniques of flourishing, with their signature graceful curves, concentric ovals, and gentle direction changes. In this step-by-step, guided tutorial, we will experiment with the endless possibilities of flourished extensions and attachments using pencil sketches. We’ll play with proper names and words until we feel comfortable, then start designing our own!

AUGUST 15 & 22, 2024

With Kathy’s step-by-step guided instructions, you’ll create some big WOW factor through penwork, flourishing and ornamentation with these beautifully designed and decorated envelopes! You’ll learn the process of creating these small art compositions, like a rose frame, flourished border, butterfly with gold moon, cameo garland, fancy birdcage, and more! And you’ll design your own masterpiece too! From traditional to romantic to whimsical and fun, you’ll enjoy creating mail art that POPS!
